Accessibility

The Sleepy Labs and Good Feeds should work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom, voice control or other assistive technology. This page explains what we've done, where we know the site falls short, and how to tell us about a problem.
The standard we follow
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It's the internationally recognised standard for accessible websites.
What we've done
- Everything can be used with a keyboard alone, including the menus, the photo galleries, the photo viewer and Good Feeds. A visible outline shows where you are, and a "Skip to content" link appears when you first press Tab.
- Buttons, links, map pins and form fields have names that screen readers announce, and pop-up windows are announced as dialogs. Escape closes them and returns you to where you were.
- Photos have text descriptions, pages use proper headings in order, and every page is marked as Australian English.
- Text and buttons meet the WCAG contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
- You can zoom to 200% and beyond on any page, including Good Feeds on phones, and the layout adapts down to small screens.
- Buttons and links are large enough to tap comfortably.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the site's animations are switched off.
- Nothing flashes, and nothing plays sound unless you start a video.
Known limitations
- The Good Feeds map is visual. Every place on the map is also in the searchable list beside it (tap "Places" on a phone), with the same details, so you don't need the map to use Good Feeds.
- Our videos have no captions yet. They're short clips, mostly background sound with no speech.
- Websites we link to, such as Google Maps and Instagram, and Stripe's checkout, are run by other companies and may not meet the same standard.
We test with keyboard-only use, automated checks and screen-reader friendly markup, and we fix problems as we find them.
